Ways to Make a Dog Stroller Using a Baby stroller
Pet strollers are a revolution among the pet lovers and strollers are getting popular with each passing day. Carrying your cute furry friend inside a stroller is a form of pampering your pet but it also has some practical reasons for using a pet stroller.
The biggest advantage of using a pet stroller is it allows you to take your pet along for a walk or jogging. Also, the strollers offer several advantages over standard dog carriers or leashes, you can more easily push a pet stroller than risk becoming tangled in a leash or to struggle with the weight of a dog carriage.
Pet strollers are also helpful if your puppy is recovering from surgery or suffering with any sort of joint or weight problems. A stroller would help them enjoy being with you in the fresh air without risking further injury. The strollers are also an ideal way to take your pet if he is unable to walk for some reason or maybe he is elder or your beloved puppy tires easily.
If you are having a baby stroller at your home and it is now of no use because your child has outgrown then this article is for you. Here we discuss some ways using which you can easily convert a baby stroller into a pet stroller and can save your money.
Here are the steps which you can follow to convert a baby stroller into a dog stroller:
Step1: You need to first find out which size of stroller will be fit for your puppy. If your pet is tiny then he can fit in a variety of strollers, but if you are having larger furry dog then you’ll need a stroller that doesn’t exceed the weight restrictions. You need to ensure that stroller’s seat reclines to a flat position if your dog doesn’t fit comfortably.
Step2: One possible idea is to remove all the fabrics and parts of the stroller that you won’t be using. Remove the unwanted straps that would come up between the child’s legs. You can also remove the straps that would run across the stroller and hook like a seat belt but can remove the buckle. Cut the straps back leaving 3 to 4 inches of straps only.
Step3: Now measure the front of the stroller, along with where the child’s leg holes would be. You need to cover the holes because this prevents any opportunity for your dog to get his paw stuck.
Step4: By measuring the holes cut a piece of foam to put in place of holes. Along with foam cut a piece of the vinyl table cloth to cover the foam. You can stick the vinyl fabric around the foam with a clue or can stitch the fabric piece closed at the edges.
Step5: Now can sew one side of the Velcro strips onto the vinyl fabric covered foam piece that you have just constructed and then sew inside of the stroller the Velcro strips onto the fabric that surrounds the leg holes. Also, make sure the strips line up with the Velcro on the piece of foam you have made.
In case you want to clean the stroller, you can easily remove the foam piece and place it back.
Step6: Make sure your dog will be able to sit, stand and lie down while hooked to the straps and for that measure the length from your dog leashes from beginning to the end with the clasps. You need to sew these onto the straps inside the stroller. According to the length of your dog, you need to determine its size.
Step7: Based on the measurement that you took to cut down the leashes and cauterize the ends with the firelighter. Now attach the leashes to the straps inside the stroller using heavy-duty needle and thread. You can use a stretch stitch. While stitching you can protect your fingers with the thimbles.
Step8: Giving a sense of security to your dog health, with the top measure the opening in the stroller in the upright position. Also, if you want you can cover this opening and for that cut down the fabric mesh based on the measurement or according to the pattern you created and cover it.
Step9: Now measure the edge of the mesh and cut a strip of canvas equal to the edge that you have measured. To accommodate the Velcro strips create a sufficient width. Now pin the edging onto the mesh and run a seam to attach it by using a sewing machine or you can hand stitch the edge as well.
Step10: You need to stitch the other side of the Velcro strips to the stroller to the place where the mesh cover will meet the outside of the stroller. Make sure they’ll properly line up with the Velcro strips on the inside of the mesh cover.
Step11: Now measure the inside of the stroller and cut a piece of batting as per the measurement which you have taken, where your dog will be sitting. Also, cut the piece of the Vinyl table cloth to cover the batting and turn it inside out and insert the batting in the tablecloth and pin three edges.
Step12: With the help of the sewing machine, run a seam along these edges and also trim the edges back to ½ inch. It’s time to remove all the pins and batting and turn the fabric to its right side out and reinsert the batting and pin the remaining edges closed. At the end using sewing machine run the seam down to the final side to close the opening. Remove the pins and your dog stroller is ready where your dog can sit and roam with you comfortably also, the seat can be removed for cleaning.
