Scruffs® Dog Bed Reviews
Contents
We were recently approached by the team at Scruffs, a dog bed manufacturer, who offered to send us a few samples from their wide-ranging dog bed collection to see if our pooches liked them enough to recommend to a friend!
We asked Scruffs if they could send some examples of waterproof and hard wearing beds for a pair of lively springers, and something a bit more plush and cosy for a spoiled staffy-x, and we weren’t disappointed, so much so that Scruffs now feature in our ‘Best Dog Bed’ and ‘Best Indestructible Dog Bed‘ reviews.
A bit about Scruffs; Based in the North West of England, Scruffs started out as a British business, and is now one of Europe’s biggest dog bed distributors, with a focus on using high end fabrics for high quality products. What we particularly liked was the use of recycled materials for example to fill the beds with, as we are becoming more aware of the need to be greener.
So what did they send?
Here is our review of three Scruffs dog beds:
-
Scruffs ArmourDillo Robust Dog Bed
OK, so we asked for indestructible and wow were we impressed when this orthopaedic memory foam ‘battle ready’ bed arrived! A large, dense mattress bed without sides, the ArmourDillo is definitely a larger dogs’ bed. At first glance, we could tell the bed was great quality and going to be hard wearing. It is certainly a tough looking and feeling bed, so we know it wouldn’t be for every type of pooch.
What do Scruffs say about the ArmourDillo Robust Dog Bed?
“This near-impregnable 1680 Denier ballistic material maximises the beds resilience against scratching and chewing. The material is backed with a 100% waterproof laminate, making the bed ideal for use outdoors or in kennels. The outer cover includes double-stitched re-enforced seams, further increasing the products durability.”
The cover is also washable at 30C.
What did our canine reviewer say?
Sal and her two springer spaniels had a great time revewing the Scruffs Armourdillo and Expedition dog beds. One of her girls is a spritely ten years old owever, and (in Sal’s words, not ours!), her ‘bones are creaking’ somewhat! She thought the ArmourDillo bed might help by the fact that it is an orthopaedic bed, but we think it might have been a case of ‘princess and the pea’, because she just couldn’t get comfy! We think that a heavier breed of dog would be more suited, to mould into the dense memory foam and feel its benefit more. However, from a human point of view, it was highly rated!
We all loved the outer chew-resistant, waterproof backed bed. If you have a big, active dog who is a heavy chewer, or who lives in outdoor kennels, we really think this bed should be in the running as it is made of sturdier stuff.
Value for money wise, it is at the more expensive end of the range at £99.99, but not above and beyond many of the other beds marketed as orthopaedic/memory foam or indestructible dog beds.
Aww, what cosy doggies! Can we come and curl up too? The ArmourDillo is on the right of the picture with the Expedition Box Bed on the left.

Scruffs Expedition Box Dog Bed
When the Scruffs dog beds arrived, I have to say our eyes were most drawn to this one. The look, feel, weight of the bed were all wonderful. OK, so we get excited about dog beds yes, but we know our dog loving friends are all the same! We were looking for a great waterproof but yet still cosy bed to feature in a new review and we think this goes straight to the top.
What do Scruffs say about the Expedition box dog bed?
“These beds are produced using a heavy-duty, 600-denier fabric, providing a robust, durable outer cover. The reverse side of the fabric is coated with a 100% water resistant backing to prevent the ingress of water. The same backing is applied to the beds non-slip base.
For improved support the box beds are constructed using a one-piece design. The centre cushion of the bed forms an integral section, maximising the beds strength and durability. The beds are filled with a 100% recycled green-fibre fill with unmatched cushioning, resilience and insulation characteristics.”
Again, the covers can be washed at 30Con a gentle cycle.
What did our canine reviewer say?
Our canine reviewer agrees whole heartedly too, having just taken the bed away for its first beach holiday and it has stood up to the job perfectly for her young, active spaniel.
Sal loved the look and feel of the product, the large size fit her spaniel perfectly, it was cosy yet withstood her wet muddy or sandy paws, and she really had nothing negative to say about the bed (apart from that they wish they had two!).
The bed wiped clean really easily too, meaning it doesn’t always have to go in the machine. We fully recommend this bed to anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors with their dog, and we think it is fantastic value for money, at RRP £54.99 (large size). The beds come in a range of sizes and colours to suit most dogs.
-
Scruffs Chester Box Dog Bed
Carmen is a happy staffy-x after sleeping in her new Chester box dog bed, and we can see why!
Our first impression was that this was a lovely, cosy, warm yet lightweight bed made of really luxurious fabric which would blend well with the home interiors!
What do Scruffs say about the Chester Box Dog Bed?
“The Scruffs® Chester dog bed collection has been produced using a rich chenille fabric to upholster the outer of each bed. Luxurious, super-soft short pile plush lines the dog beds sleep area providing a snug environment for your pet. The beds are trimmed with faux suede piping and center patch with an embroidered Scruffs® logo. As with nearly all Scruffs® beds the Chester collection is machine washable and has a non-slip base. The box dog bed is made using a one-piece construction providing greater support and enhanced durability during washing.”
What does our canine reviewer say?
Cathy and dog Carmen are really thrilled with the bed. Cathy instantly loved the look and feel of the bed, and Carmen fit in it well – this was a large size. It was easy to clean, comfortable, and superior in quality to beds they had tried before. Without doubt they recommend this product to others.
Price wise, for a large size bed the RRP is £54.99, which for a luxury dog bed is about mid range and having tested it, good value for money. It comes in 4 sizes and two colours, Graphite Grey and Chocolate Brown which would suit most modern interiors well. We hope you agree!
Note: Scruffs® gifted us three dog bed samples for us to see if we liked and would recommend them. In no way are we obliged to provide positive feedback or include their beds in our ‘Best Dog Bed..’ reviews.
